Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) is a non-invasive therapy that exposes the body to extreme cold temperatures for a short period of time (2-3 minutes). The benefits of WBC may include a general wellness improvement, decreased pain, and muscle recovery. WBC is popular in markets such as sports, rehabilitation, beauty, wellness and health, as well as many others.
Types of Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC)
There are two types of liquid nitrogen WBC: indirect and direct.
With indirect WBC, liquid nitrogen indirectly cools normal room air before it is exposed to the individual. As a result of using normal room air, indirect units can fully enclose the individual for maximum cold exposure, including the head / neck. Air Products supplies liquid nitrogen to indirect WBC units.
Direct WBC units use direct contact with gaseous nitrogen to cool the individual. The direct use of gaseous nitrogen poses safety risks to the individual and limits exposure from the neck down. Air Products does not supply liquid nitrogen to direct WBC machinery.
